Silver Through Time

Why Silver Lasts Forever

Silver is one of the world’s most remarkable metals. Mined from deep within the Earth, it can pass through countless hands, be transformed into different objects, and be melted down and remodelled again and again. Yet, throughout its journey, the silver itself never truly disappears.

From the moment silver ore is extracted from the ground, it begins a journey that may last for thousands of years. After mining, the ore is processed to separate the silver from other minerals. The refined metal is then shaped into coins, jewellery, tableware, ornaments, industrial components and countless other products.

Over time, these objects may become worn, damaged, outdated or unwanted. A silver coin might lose its place in circulation, a necklace might break, or a treasured family heirloom might eventually be sold. But silver has a unique quality: it can be melted down and given a completely new life without losing the metal itself.

When silver is melted, it changes from a solid into a liquid. When it cools, it can be cast into a new shape, refined if necessary, and remodelled into another object. A ring could become a coin, a coin could become a piece of jewellery, and that jewellery could one day become something entirely different. The original object disappears, but the silver remains.

Unlike other materials that burn away, or decompose, silver is a chemical element.  It lasts because the metal can be recovered, reused and transformed. From the mine to the melting pot, from one owner to the next, silver continues its journey through time.
